In the final game of the regular season, the Ayala Bulldogs sealed their outright ownership of the 2023 Mountain West League title. It came after their 43-6 win over the Alta Loma Braves where the Bulldogs offense exploded for 43 points before Alta Loma scored their only touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Ayala (6-4 overall, 3-0 league), took the lead 7-0 on the three yard touchdown run by quarterback Maximus Borroso in the first quarter.

Alta Loma (1-9 overall, 0-3 league), had their ensuing drive cut short as Braves quarterback had a pass intercepted that gave the ball back to Ayala.

It didn’t take the Bulldogs long to capitalize on the turnover as Borroso completed a 28-yard pass to Drew Amico. The senior wide receiver caught the pass and ran into the end zone untouched. Ayala opted for the two point conversion that was successful and extended their lead 15-0 with one minute and fourteen seconds left in the first quarter.

Ayala continued to dominate the game as the Bulldogs team leading rusher Marquis Monroe took the handoff and ran to the right side. The senior running back ran six yards to score the touchdown to give his team the 22-0 lead with 10 minutes and 11 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

Alta Loma’s offense couldn’t find that spark to get past the Ayala defense and remained quiet in the first half and the Bulldogs offense took full advantage.

Ayala would find the end zone once more in the second quarter as senior running back Alex Thomas took the handoff and ran up the middle to score from 10 yards out. The Bulldogs lead was 29-0 going into halftime.

The Bulldogs offense carried the ball 30 times, rushed for a total of 198 yards and three touchdowns.

In the passing department, Ayala caught 10 passes for 117 yards and three touchdowns.

Trailing 43-0 in the fourth quarter, Alta Loma scored its lone touchdown and Ayala went on to win the game 43-6.

Ayala used three quarterbacks in the game. Borosso started the game for Ayala and played the entire first half. Then, Elijah Duarte came in to play in the third quarter and Carson Hoover finished the game.

Winning their third consecutive league game, that put the Bulldogs in sole possession of first place in the Mountain West to make them the 2023 league champions.

Ayala will represent the Mountain West League in the CIF-SS Division Seven playoff bracket and opens at home facing the Bay League’s Culver City Centaurs on Friday, November 3rd. Kickoff is at 7 pm.
