The Toyota Arena was the electrifying setting for a highly anticipated match-up between two Mt. Baldy League powerhouses, the Chino Cowboys and the Don Lugo Conquistadors. The stakes were high as the victor would not only lay claim to inter-district supremacy but also secure the coveted top position in the league standings.
Both teams entered the arena with impressive identical league records of 5-1, setting the stage for an intense showdown. Elijah Montijo, the driving force behind the Conquistadors’ offense, delivered a stellar performance, contributing 21 crucial points and propelling Lugo to a 14-10 lead at the conclusion of a hard-fought first quarter.
The Cowboys, led by the exceptional skills of Shawn Jamison Jr., mounted a spirited offensive display, with Jamison Jr. accounting for an impressive 21 out of his game 29 total points in the first half, establishing himself as the leading scorer of the game. Nonetheless, the resilient Conquistadors maintained their composure and headed into halftime with a 35-27 advantage.
In the pivotal third quarter, Samuel Chavez emerged as a key contributor for Don Lugo, adding five points to his tally of 14 points in the game and helping his team extend their lead to 53-40 by the close of the quarter. The Conquistadors’ unwavering momentum proved instrumental as they successfully defended their lead, ultimately clinching a resounding victory over the Cowboys.
With this crucial win, the Don Lugo Conquistadors seized sole possession of the coveted first place in the Mt. Baldy League, boasting an impressive league record of 6-1.
