The Chino Hills Huskies (20-8-2) defeated the Chino Cowboys (14-9-1) 2-0 in the Division 5 baseball semi-finals at Chino High School. The game remained scoreless until the top of the third inning when the Huskies had a runner on second base. Jacob Jimenez delivered a crucial base hit, driving in the baserunner and giving Chino Hills a 1-0 lead. From that point on, the Huskies never trailed.
Chino Hills added another run in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs, Frankie Brazil reached first base due to an error by the Cowboys. This mistake proved costly for Chino as Brazil eventually scored on a short fly ball to right field hit by Favian Vasquez. Cowboys’ right fielder Eric Hernandez made a diving attempt, but the ball hit the grass before landing in his glove, allowing Brazil to score from first base and extend the Huskies lead to 2-0.
The Huskies’ defense held strong throughout the game, preventing the Cowboys from mounting any significant offensive threats. Their solid pitching and cohesive fielding ensured that Chino Hills maintained their lead until the final out.
This victory marks the Huskies’ first championship game appearance since 2015. They will face Santa Monica (21-7), who finished third in the Bay League. The title game is scheduled for this Friday at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore, with the first pitch at 4 pm.
