First Half: Back-and-Forth Battle

The Cowboys entered the game with momentum after a hard-fought 14-13 victory over San Marcos in the first round. With star receiver CJ Gibson back in the lineup, Chino struck early. Senior running back Demetrius Alloway opened the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown run, giving Chino a 7-0 lead. A 34-yard field goal later in the quarter extended the Cowboys’ lead to 10-0.

Silverado found its rhythm in the second quarter. Quarterback Jace Weiss led the Hawks on two scoring drives, connecting with receivers in the end zone to take a 14-10 lead.

However, Chino’s defense kept the Cowboys in the game, forcing a safety to narrow the gap to 14-12. In the closing seconds of the half, quarterback Maximus Barroso delivered a pinpoint pass to wide receiver Luke Prescott, putting Chino back on top, 18-14, at halftime.

Second Half: High Drama and Big Plays

The second half was marked by explosive plays on both sides. Barroso extended Chino’s lead early in the third quarter with a 24-yard quarterback keeper for a touchdown. Silverado responded swiftly, with Dallas Kincherlow powering his way into the end zone, narrowing the score to 25-21.

The fourth quarter saw a brilliant 67-yard touchdown pass from Weiss to wide receiver Sire Foster, reclaiming the lead for the Hawks. Weiss continued to shine, finding Jayden Pauling for another score, giving Silverado a 35-28 advantage with just over three minutes left in the game.

Final Moments: A Heart-Stopping Finish

Chino’s offense refused to back down. Barroso connected with Gibson for a spectacular 38-yard touchdown, bringing the Cowboys within three points at 35-32. The Cowboys’ defense held firm on the Hawks’ next drive, giving Chino one final opportunity to complete the comeback.

With time winding down, the Cowboys drove to the Silverado 7-yard line, setting up a potential game-tying field goal. Unfortunately, the 24-yard attempt sailed wide left, and Silverado held on for the victory.

Reflections on a Hard-Fought Game

The Cowboys’ season ends with an overall record of 5-7, but their effort and resilience were evident throughout the game. The return of CJ Gibson and the leadership of Barroso highlighted the team’s determination. Chino’s defense also played a crucial role, contributing points and key stops to keep the game competitive.

For Silverado, the victory improves their record to 7-5 and sends them to the semifinals to face South Pasadena. Weiss and his receiving corps showcased their explosive capabilities, while Kincherlow’s determination exemplified the grit and heart of the Hawks.

Looking Ahead

Both teams demonstrated the passion and tenacity that make high school football so special. While Chino’s season ends here, their effort and accomplishments are something the players, coaches, and community can be proud of. Silverado moves forward, carrying the hopes of their fans into the semifinals.
