
The Ontario Christian Knights delivered a stellar performance to claim the Troy Classic Girls Basketball Championship, defeating the Mater Dei Monarchs 66-58. The victory elevated the Knights to an impressive 9-0 record, solidifying their standing as the top-ranked team in California and 10th in the nation. Mater Dei, ranked third in the state and 16th nationally, suffered its first defeat of the season, falling to 7-1.
Freshman standout Tati Griffin led the charge for the Knights with a commanding performance, tallying 20 points and eight rebounds. Her efforts propelled Ontario Christian to victory and earned her All-Tournament MVP honors.
The game was tightly contested early on, with the Knights holding a slim 18-15 lead after the first quarter. Sophomore Kaleena Smith contributed a balanced effort, scoring 15 points and dishing out an impressive 11 assists, helping Ontario Christian maintain its edge. The Knights closed the first half with a 37-31 advantage.
Freshman Sydney Douglas also made significant contributions, adding 10 points and eight rebounds as Ontario Christian held its lead through the second half, securing the hard-fought win.
Mater Dei, despite the loss, displayed resilience throughout the contest. The Monarchs fought hard but could not close the gap against a dynamic Ontario Christian squad.
With the Troy Classic title secured, the Knights now set their sights on their next challenge, hosting Windward at home on Thursday, December 12th, at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, the Monarchs will look to bounce back as they travel to face Fairmont Prep on Tuesday, December 10th, at 7 p.m.
