Chino Hills Huskies Edge Bonita Bearcats in Day Two of The Classic at Damien

Day two of The Classic at Damien Copper Division featured a competitive matchup between the Chino Hills Huskies and the Bonita Bearcats. The Huskies, riding high after a dominant 94-56 win over Bosco Tech on opening day, entered the contest with a strong 12-2 record. The Bearcats, fresh off a 56-44 victory against Norco, came into the game with a 7-7 record.

Chino Hills established their dominance early, jumping to a commanding 17-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. They continued to control the pace, extending their advantage to 33-17 at halftime. However, the Bearcats showed resilience in the second half, led by Hunter Smith’s impressive shooting. Smith scored 22 points in the game, including five three-pointers—four of which came in a third-quarter surge that helped narrow the gap. By the end of the third quarter, Bonita trailed 49-41.

Despite Bonita’s late push, Chino Hills held firm in the fourth quarter to secure a 61-54 victory. Joaquin Tovera was the standout performer for the Huskies, leading all scorers with 23 points. The Huskies also received contributions from Jaden Gamez (12 points), Alex Criner (9 points), Ari Allen (6 points), Nate Jarrett (5 points), Calil Frazier (4 points), and Akello Rasshan (2 points).

For Bonita, Smith’s three-point shooting was a highlight, as his five made three-pointers outpaced the Huskies’ team total of three. James Kim added 13 points for the Bearcats, with supporting efforts from Sam Kolody (6 points), Andrew Sanchez (6 points), Jalen Pineda (5 points), and Brayden Henderson (2 points).

With the win, Chino Hills improves to 13-2 and advances to face Alta Loma on day three of the tournament. Bonita, with a record of 7-8, will take on Shadow Hills in their next matchup.
