The Palomares League matchup between the Diamond Bar Brahmas and Glendora Tartans on Tuesday night was eventful on and off the court. Glendora, entering the game with an impressive 16-3 overall record, showcased their dominance, defeating Diamond Bar 69-58. The win brought Glendora to 17-3 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Brahmas dropped to 7-11 overall and 1-1 in league play.
First Half Highlights
Glendora set the tone early, leading 19-14 at the end of the first quarter, with senior Colton Gray scoring 19 of his game-high 30 points in the first half. By halftime, the Tartans extended their lead to 40-31, capitalizing on Diamond Bar’s inability to find consistency beyond the arc (2-for-11 from three-point range in the first half).
Diamond Bar’s sophomore standout Tyler West kept his team in contention, scoring 14 of his 28 points before halftime. However, the Brahmas struggled with turnovers and rebounds, which would plague them throughout the game.
Halftime Power Outage
The game took an unexpected turn during halftime when a local power outage plunged the gym into darkness. The outage, possibly linked to the historic heavy winds and wildfires affecting Southern California, delayed the game for 20 minutes. Initially, officials and both teams agreed to reschedule the second half for Friday. However, just as players and fans prepared to leave, the lights came back on, and the decision was made to continue.
Second Half Action
The extended break didn’t seem to impact Glendora, who came out strong in the third quarter, scoring eight quick points to widen their lead to 15. In contrast, Diamond Bar struggled offensively, going 1-for-10 from the field in the quarter. By the end of the third, the Tartans had stretched their advantage to 56-41.
The Brahmas made a late push in the fourth quarter, with West adding to his total, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap. Glendora’s balanced scoring attack, led by Gray and supported by Max Hilgenfeldt (10 points) and Vince Montalbo (8 points), proved too much for Diamond Bar to overcome.
Statistical Breakdown
Rebounds: Glendora dominated on the boards, out-rebounding Diamond Bar 33-20, including 14 offensive rebounds.
Turnovers: Both teams were nearly even, with Diamond Bar committing 12 turnovers to Glendora’s 13.
Three-Point Shooting: Glendora was efficient from beyond the arc, hitting 9-of-20, while Diamond Bar struggled, going 6-of-22.
Free Throws: Both teams were solid from the line. Glendora was perfect at 10-for-10, and Diamond Bar converted 8-of-10.
