The Damien Spartans showcased their dominance on the court Tuesday night, securing a decisive 74-58 victory over the Chino Hills Huskies in Baseline League boys basketball action. With the win, Damien improved to 2-0 in league play, while Chino Hills fell to 0-2.
The Spartans established an early lead, finishing the first quarter ahead 20-13. They maintained control throughout the game, holding a 38-25 advantage at halftime and leading 56-45 at the end of the third quarter before closing out the game strong with a final score of 74-58.
Damien’s scoring was led by standout performances from Jayden Avina, who tallied a game-high 24 points, followed by Jacob Allen with 17 points, Eli Garner with 13 points, and Zaire Rasshan contributing 11 points.
Chino Hills struggled to keep pace despite a valiant effort from Joaquin Tovera, who scored 19 points, and Jaden Gamez, who added 18 points. Other contributors for the Huskies included Nate Jarrett and Calil Frazier, each with 7 points, while Zhongxing Qu, Alex Criner, and Kaden Percell chipped in with 2, 2, and 4 points, respectively.
A key moment in the game came during the fourth quarter when Chino Hills’ top scorer, Joaquin Tovera, suffered an injury and had to be helped off the court. Unfortunately, he did not return to the game, leaving the Huskies without one of their primary offensive weapons during the final stretch.
