The 2025 high school baseball season kicked off with an exciting matchup between the defending CIF Southern Section Division 5 champions, Chino Hills Huskies, and the Chino Cowboys. With a strong core of returning players, the Huskies entered the season with high expectations, while the Cowboys were eager to avenge last year’s playoff loss to Chino Hills.
The game started with both teams making an early offensive statement, each scoring a run in their first at-bats to even the score at 1-1 after one inning. However, the Huskies quickly took control in the third inning, led by standout performer Josh Mendez, who went 3-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs, falling just a home run short of hitting for the cycle. His offensive spark helped Chino Hills claim a 3-1 lead in the top of the third.
The Huskies continued to apply pressure and broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning. Jacob Jimenez delivered one of the game’s biggest highlights, crushing a home run off the palm tree in right field as part of his 2-for-3 performance. Andrew Boldomino also contributed to the offensive onslaught, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. By the end of the inning, Chino Hills had extended their lead to 7-1, effectively sealing their first victory of the season.
With a dominant performance to start the year, the Huskies look poised to defend their CIF-SS championship and build on their 2024 success.
