The Chino Cowboys and Oak Hills Bulldogs played in the CIF-Southern Section Division 2A Quarterfinals on Wednesday night in a highly anticipated rematch. Despite a dominant first-half performance by Chino, Oak Hills stormed back in the second half to edge out the Cowboys 41-39, ending Chino’s postseason run.

Chino (22-6) had previously defeated Oak Hills (45-38) in their regular-season meeting, and early on, it looked like history would repeat itself. The Cowboys jumped out to an 11-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, led by sophomore standout Tess Oldenburg, who finished as the game’s leading scorer with 23 points.

Junior Zhya Holyfield provided key offensive support, scoring 11 points, as Chino carried a 24-14 advantage into halftime. But after the break, Oak Hills made the necessary adjustments.

Led by Bella Rincon’s 20-point performance, the Bulldogs made their way back into contention. With 2:08 remaining, Oak Hills surged ahead 38-36, seizing the momentum in the final minutes. Chino fought to reclaim the lead, but Oak Hills held on, securing the victory and advancing to the semifinals against Rosary Academy.

While the loss ends Chino’s playoff run, the Cowboys conclude a remarkable season as Mt. Baldy League Champions, finishing with an undefeated 10-0 league record and an overall mark of 22-6.
