The Chino Hills Huskies enter the 2025 season looking to build on last year’s 7–4 campaign, a run that included reclaiming “The Bone” rivalry trophy from Ayala and narrowly missing a Baseline League championship. Their lone league loss came in a 20–17 battle with Damien, a game that decided the title race. Damien went on to finish 5–0 in league play, while Chino Hills closed at 4–1 for second place. The season ended with a tough loss to Cajon in the first round of the Division 3 playoffs, but Head Coach Keland Johnson sees plenty of reasons to be optimistic.

“We have a lot of experienced players back, and our seniors will be counted on to lead,” Johnson said. “We need to believe in the culture of Chino Hills—trust, effort, discipline, and family. If we do that, anything can happen.”

Returning Talent

Eight starters return on offense, giving the Huskies a strong foundation. Quarterback Alex Medyn is back under center, with top targets Luke Lopez at tight end and Calum Ferrell at wide receiver. Jacob Jimenez returns in the backfield.

The offensive line will be anchored by Nate Cervantes, an Eastern Washington commit, along with Cole Stripling, Miner Coberg, and Nathan Muñoz.

On defense, five starters return, led by defensive linemen Deegan Burnett and Jakobi Grant, linebacker Cayden Beyer, and defensive back Azari Warren, a New Mexico commit. Linebacker Chris Lopez adds experience to the second level.

New Additions

The Huskies welcome key transfers who could make an immediate impact. Defensive back Dawaun Nettingham arrives from Ayala, while running back Jerimiah Jackson comes from Roosevelt. Johnson also pointed to a talented junior class that will be asked to contribute in all phases.

The Road Ahead

Chino Hills faces a challenging preseason slate before diving into Baseline League play, which Johnson calls “a playoff game each week.” On October 3rd, the “Battle for the Bone”rivalry game against Ayala takes place—marking the final time the Bulldogs will be in the Baseline League before moving to a new conference.

“We have to focus on our team to be successful in these battles,” Johnson said. “Play disciplined and hard-nosed football.”

The Oct. 10 trip to Ayala is circled on every player’s calendar, but the Huskies will need to be locked in every week. Johnson believes the mix of veteran leadership, impact newcomers, and developing juniors can keep Chino Hills in the league title hunt.

“I know our players are up to the challenge,” Johnson said. “I can’t wait to see what they do on Friday nights.”
