Fueled by quarterback Diego Castillo’s three-touchdown performance, the Los Altos Conquerors thrilled their home crowd Thursday night with a 21-7 victory over the visiting West Covina Bulldogs. The win improved Los Altos to 2-0 in non-league play, while West Covina dropped to 0-1 in its season opener.

First Quarter – Bulldogs Strike First

Los Altos opened the game by driving down the field, but early mistakes stalled their momentum. West Covina seized the opportunity when Elias Serafin blocked a punt, giving the Bulldogs possession at the 25-yard line.

Running back Noah Davis capitalized with a tough 5-yard touchdown run, putting West Covina up 7-0.

The Conquerors answered quickly. Running back Evan Rojas sparked the offense with a 30-yard run to the 4-yard line. Castillo followed by punching in a 1-yard quarterback keeper, and Daniel Blas converted the extra point to even the score at 7-7.

Second Quarter – Conquerors Take Control

Midway through the quarter, Los Altos’ defense swung momentum when Adan Rodriguez delivered a sack that forced West Covina into a long third down. A miscue on the ensuing punt gave Los Altos possession deep in Bulldogs territory.

Castillo immediately connected with Gavin Flores on a 12-yard touchdown strike, giving the Conquerors their first lead of the night.

Just before halftime, Flores came up big again—this time on defense—snagging an interception to halt a West Covina drive. Los Altos carried a 14-7 lead into the break.

Third Quarter – Defensive Battle

The Conquerors dominated time of possession in the third quarter, piecing together a methodical drive. But just when they looked poised to extend their lead, West Covina’s Isaiah Rodriguez intercepted a pass and raced 40 yards the other way.

Despite the sudden momentum shift, Los Altos’ defense stood firm, denying the Bulldogs a scoring chance and keeping the score 14-7 entering the final period.

Fourth Quarter – Castillo and Flores Seal the Win

With the game still in doubt, Castillo and Flores teamed up once more. Castillo orchestrated a grinding drive that wore down the Bulldogs’ defense before delivering a perfectly placed 15-yard touchdown pass to Flores with under three minutes to play.

That score—Flores’ second touchdown of the night—pushed the lead to 21-7 and put the game out of reach. Castillo finished with 174 passing yards, two touchdown passes, 63 rushing yards, and a rushing touchdown.

Looking Ahead

The Conquerors (2-0) will look to remain unbeaten when they host Burroughs High School on September 11 at 7:00 p.m. The Bulldogs (0-1) aim to bounce back on the road against El Rancho High School on September 5 at 7:00 p.m.
