Chino Hills took the Bone and left no doubt. The Huskies defeated Ayala 49–0 on Friday night at Ayala High School. The win pushes Chino Hills to 5–2 overall and 2–0 in Baseline League play. Ayala falls to 0–7 and 0–2.
The Huskies scored on their first drive and never slowed. Senior quarterback Alex Medyn ran in two first-quarter touchdowns. He added two scoring passes in the second quarter. Chino Hills led 42–0 at halftime. A running clock followed in the second half.
Special teams flipped field position and then the scoreboard. Azari Warren returned a punt 49 yards for a touchdown with 2:30 left in the second quarter. Head coach Keland Johnson managed the final seconds before the break. With one second left, Medyn hit sophomore Kylan Olson for a 5-yard score.
The defense did its part. Ayala entered averaging 9.6 points per game and did not score. The Bulldogs were unable to find rhythm against a front that tackled in space and limited explosive plays.
This rivalry carries history. Chino Hills won last year’s meeting 24–10, which ended a six-game slide in the series. The Huskies now lead the all-time Battle for the Bone, 13–9. This season’s matchup was the schools’ final Baseline League game against each other. Ayala moves to a new league next year with Bonita, Charter Oak, Colony, Glendora, and Northview. The Baseline returns to five teams: Chino Hills, Etiwanda, Upland, Damien, and Rancho Cucamonga.
