Conquerors advance to 8–0 overall; Castillo throws three touchdown passes

The Los Altos Conquerors took another confident step toward a Hacienda League title on Thursday night, defeating the Chino Cowboys 28–14 in a well-fought matchup that showcased the talents and determination of both programs.

Conquerors Stay Hot Behind Castillo’s Arm

Quarterback Diego Castillo delivered a steady performance for Los Altos, completing 13 of 25 passes for 140 yards and three touchdowns. His connection with Josiah Cortez proved pivotal throughout the night, with Cortez pulling down two of Castillo’s scoring throws — including a 25-yard strike in the first quarter and a 23-yard touchdown in the third that put the Conquerors ahead for good.

The Conquerors carried a 14–7 lead into halftime after Castillo found Benjamin Cortez in the back of the end zone with five seconds left in the second quarter — a play that shifted the momentum firmly in Los Altos’ favor.

Chino Fights Hard to Stay Close

The Cowboys battled throughout the night behind the effort of running back Nathan Bull, who rushed for 69 yards on 17 carries and scored both of Chino’s touchdowns. His 15-yard run in the first quarter tied the game at 7-7, and another 15-yard burst in the third quarter evened the score at 14-14 before Los Altos pulled away.

Quarterback Carson Hoover also helped spark the Cowboys with a key 20-yard completion to Christian Rodriguez, aided by a personal foul penalty that set up Bull’s second touchdown.

Defense and Key Plays Seal the Win

While Castillo’s passing led the offense, the Los Altos defense played a major role in securing the victory. Safety Marques Garcia recorded a second-quarter sack and later sealed the game with an interception in the end zone with 2:41 left to play.

The Conquerors capitalized on a fourth-quarter roughing-the-kicker penalty that moved the ball to the 1-yard line, where Evan Rojas punched in the final touchdown to make it 28-14. Moments later, Adan Rodriguez forced and recovered a fumble near the goal line to snuff out another Chino scoring chance.

Looking Ahead

With the victory, Los Altos improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in Hacienda League play, setting up a pivotal matchup on Friday at Diamond Bar (3-5, 3-0). Chino, which entered the game also unbeaten in league play and defeated Los Altos last season, fell to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in league.
