The Ayala Bulldogs opened Palomares League play with a hard-fought road victory Tuesday night, edging the Glendora Tartans 49–46 at Glendora High School in a tightly contested league opener.
Ayala set the tone early, jumping out to a 20–12 lead at the end of the first quarter, before Glendora responded to cut the deficit to one heading into halftime, 28–27. The Bulldogs regrouped after the break, extending the lead to 36–33 after three quarters, and then executed down the stretch to secure the three-point victory.
The story of the night was Brenden White, who delivered a standout performance with a game-high 21 points. White scored nine points in the first quarter, showcasing his versatility with two field goals, a three-pointer, and two free throws. He was forced to leave the game late in the first quarter after a hard fall and remained on the bench for the remainder of the first half.
White returned in the second half and made his presence felt immediately, scoring two points in the third quarter before taking over late with 10 fourth-quarter points, including clutch baskets from the field and key free throws that helped Ayala hold off Glendora’s final push.
Ayala received solid contributions throughout the lineup. Milo Tun finished with eight points, knocking down two three-pointers in the second quarter and adding two free throws in the first. Paul Christian added seven points, scoring in both the first and third quarters, while Joshua Townsell chipped in six points on three field goals. Kyle Chang contributed three points, and Isaiah Dolloso added two points.
Glendora was led by Jeremiah Garzon, who scored 15 points and attacked the paint effectively, especially in the fourth quarter, where he accounted for six points. Tyson Rush added nine points, while Max Hilgenfeldt, Noah Rangel, Brock Willett, and Zach Newkirk each contributed two points.
Free throws proved to be a decisive factor in the close contest. Ayala went 10-for-12 from the line, while Glendora finished 8-for-12, a difference that loomed large in a three-point final.
With the win, Ayala improves to 11–2 overall and 1–0 in Palomares League play, while Glendora falls to 8–6 overall and 0–1 in league action.
Ayala will look to build on its strong league start when the Bulldogs return home to face Troy on Wednesday, December 23, at 5:00 p.m. Glendora will aim to bounce back on Friday, December 26, hosting Marquez with an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
