ONTARIO, Calif. — A night after falling short in their inaugural game, the Ontario Tower Buzzers delivered a statement performance Friday, overwhelming the Lake Elsinore Storm 16-0 behind dominant pitching and a relentless offensive attack to even the opening series at one game apiece.
With the victory, Ontario not only secured its first win in franchise history, but did so in emphatic fashion, showcasing both depth on the mound and a lineup capable of sustained pressure.
Right-hander Cam Leiter set the tone early, working three sharp innings while allowing just one hit, striking out three, and issuing no walks.
From there, 19-year-old Jesús Tillero took command.
The right-hander was electric out of the bullpen, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out eight without a walk. Tillero (1-0) controlled the tempo of the game and never allowed Lake Elsinore to generate any offensive rhythm.
Manager John Shoemaker turned to Matt Lanzendorfer to close out the game, and the right-hander retired all three batters he faced to complete the shutout.
Fast Start Sets the Tone
Ontario wasted no time applying pressure to Lake Elsinore starter Kruz Schoolcraft, the San Diego Padres’ 2025 first-round draft pick.
Leadoff hitter Jaron Elkins ignited the offense with a sharp single up the middle. A defensive misplay in right field by Kale Fountain on Emil Morales’ hit allowed Elkins to advance to third while Morales reached second.
After Landyn Vidourek worked a walk to load the bases, cleanup hitter Chase Harlan — coming off a three-hit performance in the opener — delivered again with an RBI single to right field, giving Ontario a 1-0 lead.
Brenden Tunink followed with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 2-0, and Ontario never looked back.
Big Second Inning Breaks It Open
The game shifted decisively in the second inning as Ontario capitalized on control issues and defensive miscues.
Schoolcraft walked the first three batters he faced before Morales delivered a two-run single to center field, pushing the lead to 4-0. The Storm bullpen was unable to stop the momentum.
Vidourek added an RBI single, a wild pitch brought in another run, and Mairoshendrick Martinus contributed with an RBI groundout as Ontario surged ahead 7-0.
Multiple pitching changes did little to slow the Tower Buzzers’ offense.
Relentless Offense Continues
Ontario extended its lead to 8-0 in the third inning before breaking the game open further in the fourth.
With the bases loaded, Anson Aroz lifted a sacrifice fly to center field. Later in the inning, Elkins delivered a deep fly ball to left field that was misplayed in the wind, resulting in a two-run error and extending the lead to 11-0.
A passed ball later in the inning brought home another run as Lake Elsinore’s defensive struggles mounted.
Ontario continued to tack on runs in the fifth inning, and added two more in the bottom of the eighth to cap the scoring at 16.
Dominance on Both Sides
Ontario finished with 16 runs on 11 hits and played error-free baseball, while Lake Elsinore was limited to just three hits and committed six errors.
The combination of clean defense, timely hitting, and dominant pitching created a complete performance for the Tower Buzzers.
