RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — The Chino Hills Huskies continued their strong start to Baseline League play Saturday, defeating the Upland Highlander Scots 8-3 at Morongo Field to complete a three-game series sweep and extend their winning streak to six games.

The matchup, part of the Battle of the Baseline showcase hosted at the home of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, featured a full day of high school baseball, with Chino Hills taking full advantage in the opener.

Chino Hills (11-4-1, 3-0) set the tone early behind senior left-hander Michael Chiotti, who made his return from injury and delivered a clean first inning, striking out two and retiring the side in order. Upland starter Issac Carlos matched him early, striking out all three Huskies he faced in the opening frame.

Upland (8-6-2, 0-3) broke through first in the top of the second inning. Senior Angelo Mantilla reached on a single, stole second, and scored on a base hit to right field by junior Elliot Cresap, giving the Highlanders a 1-0 lead.

But the Huskies responded emphatically in the bottom half of the inning.

Chino Hills strung together a rally, sparked by a leadoff single from Andrew Baldomino. Consecutive bunt hits by Brody Buoncristiani and Branden Kim loaded the bases, setting the stage for Anthony Medyn, who drove in the tying run on a fielder’s choice.

Moments later, Xavier Romero delivered an RBI single to give the Huskies the lead, and Taylor Pierson followed with a run-scoring double to center field. Rhett Billingsley added another RBI single, and after a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases again, Jacob Jimenez capped the five-run inning with a sacrifice fly, pushing the lead to 5-1.

Upland attempted to chip away in the third inning. After a two-out single by Ryan May, the Highlanders capitalized on a wild pitch, a walk, and an error to bring home a run and cut the deficit to 5-2.

Chino Hills answered again in the fourth.

Billingsley worked a leadoff walk and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Gabriel Hernandez. After Jimenez drew a walk, Baldomino delivered an RBI double to extend the lead to 6-2. Upland’s defense prevented further damage, as left fielder Andrew Armendarez combined with catcher Carson Kinnick to cut down a runner at the plate and end the inning.

Upland added a run in the fifth to make it 6-3, but the Huskies quickly responded with two more runs in the bottom half to put the game out of reach at 8-3.

Jayden Kim earned the win in relief for Chino Hills, after taking over in the third inning.
