In the season opener, the Damien Spartans with new head football coach Matt Bechtel hosted the Glendora Tartans. The last time the two teams met in 2018 the Tartans came away with the win and eventually went to become the Palomares League champs.

Bechtel is a Damian alum and trying to bring the program back a league championship.

Both teams come into the game with key returning players in 2019.
