A slow first half had many fans wondering if this year’s game between the Diamond Ranch Panthers and Chino Hills Huskies would lack the excitement of previous years. In 2017, the Huskies defeated the Panthers 30-27 in overtime. In 2018, the Panthers executing a trick play came from behind to win 28-27 against the Huskies.
The first half saw Chino Hills going deep into Panthers territory. Only to have to settle for field goals. Trailing 6-0, the Panthers offense added points to the board in the second quarter by scoring on an eight yard pass from quarterback Cade Miller to Nin Burns. The Panthers would lead 7-6 going into halftime.
In the second half Diamond Ranch’s offense led by Miller, senior quarterback, found the end zone twice. The first, on a 10-yard pass to Dallon Thomas and the second a 75-yard pass to DJ Shanks.
In the fourth quarter the Panthers offense awed the crowd by pulling off a reverse pass that resulted a in a 29-yards touchdown pass from Burns to Thomas making it a 28-6 Panthers lead.
Chino Hills eventually added more points on the scoreboard on a short five yard touchdown pass from quarterback Matthew Geeting to David Espinoza to trail Diamond Ranch 28-13.
The 28-13 win gives the Panthers their first win of the season and they will play the Ayala Bulldogs on Friday night. Chino Hills will be on the road Friday night to face the Corona Panthers.
