The last five years the Don Lugo Conquistadors football program has come away with victories over the Chaffey Tigers.

Tigers head coach Chris Brown implements the Wing offense for his team. This run dominating offense is tests opponents defense and ability to hang in for the full four quarters of brutal physicality.

This is the first time that both teams have played early in league play and could possibly played a role in the Conquistadors loss (1-5 overall, 0-1 league).

The Tigers (5-1 overall, 1-0 league) jumped to an early 6-0 lead scoring on the game’s opening drive. Patrick Settles from 18 yards out scored the rushing touchdown. Chaffey would attempt the two point conversion, but were unsuccessful.

Chaffey’s second touchdown came on their second possession of the game as quarterback Anthony Taylor on the keeper ran the ball into the end zone from 1 yard out. The Tigers two point conversion was stopped by Don Lugo and Chaffey would lead 12-0 in the second quarter.

The Tigers rushing strategy dominated the game as Rodriguez scored on a 79 yard run to take the 20-0 lead in the second quarter as Chaffey’s third two point conversion attempt was successful.

Rodriguez, would finish the game as the offensive leader with three touchdowns, 168 yards rushing on 12 carries.

A Don Lugo’s JoJo Galindo fumbled the ball in the second quarter that allowed Chaffey’s Ian  Jackson to recover the ball and return it to midfield.

Chaffey capitalized on the turnover on a perfectly executed flea flicker play. The Tigers Taylor with the short pass to Galeana who threw a well placed pass to Rodriguez down field to score on the 50 yard play. The shutout score remained as the Tigers took the 26-0 lead with the two point conversion unsuccessful.

In the game the Tigers completed 3 of 3 passes for 79 yards and 1 touchdown.

Don Lugo’s offense got on the board in the second quarter as Conquistadors quarterback Johnnie Valdez from 13 yards out connects his pass to Galindo for the touchdown.

After an unsuccessful two point attempt, Don Lugo trailed Chaffey 26-6 going into halftime.

The Conquistadors opened the second half with possession of the ball. With the ball on their own 43 yard line, the low snap to Valdez gave the Tigers defense time to get to the quarterback. While Valdez was trying to throw the pass he was tackled and the ball popped loose. Chaffey recovered the ball.

The Tigers moved the ball to the Don Lugo 9 yard line where Chaffey’s Galeana ran the ball for the touchdown. Chaffey increased their lead 32-6  in the third quarter as the two point attempt was stopped by the Conquistadors.

In the fourth quarter, the Tigers Rodroguez would score another touchdown from 16 yards out to take the lead 39-6.

Don Lugo would add another six points as Valdez completed a 5 yard touchdown pass to Darius Magee to trail 39-12.

However, Chaffey scored one more time in the game to finish with the win.
