The final 2019-20 Baseline League regular season game between the the Damien Spartans and Los Osos Grizzlies came down to the game’s last possession to decide the winner.

Trailing, 68-71 the Grizzlies had their final chance to tie the game with 18 seconds remaining on the game clock.

Los Osos inbounded the ball from half court, but the Damien defense held strong as the Grizzlies were unable to take a shot from the perimeter. As the game clock went down to the two second mark, Los Osos got the ball to Travion Williams under the basket to take the shot.

The basket from Williams was good as time expired, but fell short of tying the game. Damien went on to win the game 71-70.

Damien’s, (7-3), victory over Los Osos, (7-3), creates a share of second place in the Baseline League and a split of the two game series between the two teams.

The Damien victory had sentiment for the Spartans senior players as it was senior night and the last regular season game to be played at home for those players who will go on to graduate later in the school year.

Damien’s Austin Cook and Malik Thomas led as the game’s highest scorers with 24 points.   Thomas was two for three from the three point line while Cook was four for eight.

Leading Los Osos in scoring was Albert Matute with 22 points and Williams with 21 points.

Sunday afternoon CIF-SS will release playoff brackets as both teams are expected to make post season play.
