In the first matchup between the two programs in 17 years, Raymond Chia scored a 1-yard touchdown run with 20 seconds remaining to power Chino to a 19-14 victory over host Ayala on Thursday night.

Chino (2-1) controlled the early action, building a 13-0 halftime lead behind two touchdown catches from Markell Monroe, who finished with nine receptions for 170 yards. Ayala (0-3) staged a second-half comeback, cutting the deficit to 13-7 on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Blake Emanuele to Evan Meza following a 60-yard punt return by Jacob Tsai. After recovering a Chino fumble at their own 2-yard line, the Bulldogs marched 98 yards to take a 14-13 lead on a 5-yard touchdown run by Mason Eligio with 6:25 remaining.

The Cowboys answered with a game-winning 14-play, 64-yard drive capped by Chia’s touchdown. Ayala had one final chance, but Emanuele’s 42-yard completion to Maximilian Stine was tackled 3 yards short of the end zone as time expired. The win marks Chino’s second victory of the season, while Ayala dropped its 22nd consecutive contest despite two straight one-possession finishes.

Looking ahead to Friday, September 11, the Bulldogs will stay at home to host Citrus Valley at 7 p.m., while Chino returns home to face Temescal Canyon, also scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
