It’ time for some ” Prep Sports Info”. I know CHHS won yesterday and congratulations to them. Since it was so well covered by ALL the media sources, it should be easy for yawl to find the details of the game from many good sources. So, I would like to recap the numbers from Ayala’s game last Friday night against Diamond Bar. Thanks to Head Coach John Mounce and his willingness to share his information from the game. Thanks Coach! The Bulldogs faced the Brahmas for the second time this season in league, (I was fortunate to catch the first one at Ayala). In my opinion, Ayala just plays at a higher level than most of the other teams in the Palomares league. Friday night was a fine example of that with a 70-40 victory. The Bulldogs are a very fast paced team. John Edgar, 6’5″ Sr., led all scoring with 26 pts. (7 FG,2 3s,3of4 FT and 14 rebounds). Miles President, 6’3″ Sr., was not far behind with 23 pts. (6 FG, 3 3s, 3 AST, # REB). Oscar Pena, 6’0” Sr., had 13 pts (2 FG,3 3s). Austen Awosika chipped in with 10 pts and 7 assists. The Bulldogs sit atop the Palomares league undefeated at 6-0. Their closest threat will come from Bonita with a record of 5-1. Obviously, Ayala was responsible for the Bearcats one and only loss, 67-51, with a game at Bonita last Tuesday. Bonita will be the Bulldogs’ last game in league in a few weeks from now. The game is set for Thursday night on February 11th. Ayala also finds themselves atop the CIF-SS DIVISION 2AA Boys Basketball Top 10 Polls. The Bulldogs have a 20 -2 overall record this season with a lost to Serra and a overtime time lost to Mater Dei 72-68. As I said early, Ayala plays a fast and athletic game. Coach Mounce runs a well orchestrated and detailed offense and the few games I caught this year I saw the defense shut down the post and forced their opponents to outside shooting with marginal success. In my opinion, I think that Ayala is the only local team that could give Chino Hills a game this year and that includes Damien and Etiwanda. It’s possible for the two teams to meet in post season play if Ayala gets a bid to the Open Division which they deserve because, they will most likely be 25 -2 by the end of the regular season. This will again likely still find them atop the Div.AA polls. I would like them to stay at Div.2AA and make a solid run at a Divisional Championship. On the other hand, if they do play in the Open Div. and get into the 2nd round then they would get to play in the State Tournament. So either way, good things will be in the future for the Bulldogs. Next Wednesday they will host Claremont with tipoff at 6:30pm and most likely will mean another Ayala victory. Should be A fun game to watch. So, if there is any of you that have taken your young ones to see the, “Ball Boy Show” at CHHS this is a great opportunity to let them see another quality program and help inspire them to consider High School Sports and all that comes with it
